Fine Art: Creator Redeemer as seen through analogy of the Lion.

Analogy of the Lion:

Who isn’t familiar with Aslan…the great lion of CS Lewis’ Chronicles? As Mrs. Beaver says, “He’s not safe. He’s not a tame lion.” Yet Lucy never fears in His presence.

The fact that Aslan represents Christ is not lost on those of us who know the Scriptures relating God to the metaphor of a lion. He is at once comforting and One who strikes awe.

The comparison is best seen toward the end of The Horse and His Boy where Aslan says to Shasta, “There was only one lion … I was the lion … who forced you to join Aravis. I was the cat who comforted you among the houses of the dead. I was the lion who drove the jackals from you while you slept. I was the lion who gave the horses the new strength of fear for the last mile so that you should reach King Lune in time. And I was the lion you do not remember who pushed the boat in which you lay, a child near death, so that it came to shore where a man sat, wakeful at midnight, to receive you.”

“As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey— and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor— so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.” (Isaiah 31:4)

“They will follow the LORD; he will roar like a lion. When he roars, his children will come trembling from the west.”(Hosea 11:10)

“Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals’.” (Revelation 5:5)
